Electoral college imbalance needs to be fixed or abolished?

California voters cast 664 thousand votes per electoral vote. Texas 703k per electoral vote, NY 622k per electoral vote. Yet in Alaska it is 227k per electoral vote, ND its 213, VT its207, DC its 196 and in WY it is 174. Why does a vote in Wyoming count 4 times as much as a vote in Texas?
